Cassandra Monique Batie known professionally as Andra Day is an American R&B and soul vocalist as well as songwriter and actress. Alongside a Grammy Award and Golden Globe Award she is also nominated for the winner of an Academy Award. Andra Days is a strong artist who also writes beautifully. She is not only a specialist in retro R&B but her origins are in gospel jazz and blues. Andra was born Cassandra Monique Batie on Edmonds Washington. As a child in San Diego and surrounding areas She began singing in church and enrolled to at the School of Creative and Performing Arts. After leaving the School of Performing and Creative Arts, andra Day began to focus her attention on contemporary R&B and Pop, however she quickly discovered her jazz-inspired soul influences were what she was most drawn to. The turning point came in the form of a concert she gave was spotted by Kai Millard Morris who subsequently gave some of Day's tracks to her husband Stevie Wonder. Motown legend Adrian Gurvitz then introduced Day to the music industry's veteran Adrian Gurvitz. Day's fan base on YouTube grew rapidly after she teamed up together with Gurvitz, Jeffrey Evans and Buskin. The trio ultimately signed a major label deal to Warner Bros. It was picked up and played in radio stations by a variety of DJs. After that, she signed with Warner Bros. Records and began working with producer Adrian Gurvitz on her debut album, Cheers to the Fall (2015). The single "Rise Up" became a global anthem for social justice campaigns. Day was awarded two Grammy nominations for the category in the category of Best R&B Album for her album.
