Perry is daughter to actors Laurie Metcalf, and Jeff Perry. In the ABC sitcom Roseanne (in flashback) her mother played Jackie Harris in two of Perry's early TV appearances. Perry was forbidden to act with her parents till she reached the age of adulthood because they were afraid of the anxiety it could cause. Perry was shy in high-school and was not a performer. She started acting in the year 2000 at Northwestern University to gain friends after she was transferred from Boston University. Perry began her career with New York after graduation, having minor roles in Law & Order: Criminal Intent. However, the feeling of homelessness made Perry go back to California and find work as a stage actress. In 2013 she performed in The Other Place on Broadway alongside her mother. In 2015, she starred alongside her father as well as Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie at the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles. In the year 2016, Perry appeared on nine episodes of ABC's thriller The Family. Perry was a regular character on the ABC Drama about politics Scandal with her dad. Also in 2017, she played a young version of Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory), portraying her mother in a youthful version. She was cast in the role despite her close familial connection to the character.
